Don't get me wrong, I fully support the introduction of renewable energy sources and people who moan that they look a bit crap or they're a bit noisy should drive off in their 4x4s and go and live somewhere else.

My problem lies with the laws of physics (which ye cannae change) that say that energy can be neither created nor destroyed. So the idea of getting free, unlimited energy supplies has me wondering where is the payoff?

My theory is (and it's only an uneducated theory) that once we hit a critical mass of wind turbines, all the wind on the planet will be absorbed and we will have no more windy days. The impact that will have on wildlife will I suppose be dramatic in the short term but probably not drastic in the long term.

However, I think that winds have an impact on the rotation of the earth. Would the planet's rotation slow down? Or speed up?

I've long wondered about the Earth's perilous position in a nice convenient orbit round the Sun. What happens if we were to wobble a bit for some reason? Would our orbit shift a bit? Would we even start to hurtle into the Sun? Would a change to the earth's rotation speed trigger such a wobble?

I hope someone somewhere has had a think about this and is keeping a close eye on our spin speed. If any of you have any thoughts or knowledge on this then please leave a comment.
